Downtown Atlanta was abuzz with curious minds as our College of the Arts Office of Educational Outreach at Georgia State University hosted its annual summer programming of workshops and institutes for creatives of all ages.
New! Educational Outreach and the School of Music kicked off its inaugural Summer Music Institute, a week-long music camp for choral and orchestra students interested in growing as musicians. Participants engaged with Georgia State faculty and students and gained ensemble and musicianship skills, all while experiencing Georgia State’s thriving downtown environment.
The Atlanta Summer Conducting Institute featured a Choral Conducting Track led by co-artistic directors Dr. Daniel Bara of The University of Georgia and Dr. Deanna Joseph of Georgia State University. Dr. Robert Ambrose of Georgia State University and guest Dr. Mallory Thompson of Northwestern University led the Wind Band Conducting Track.
Summer Jazz Workshop is an intensive learning experience for middle and high school musicians. Georgia State's Dr. Gordon Vernick led the program alongside jazz instructors Kevin Bales, Robert Boone, Dave Frackenpohl, Joe Grandsen, Randy Hoexter, Derrick Jackson, Chris Otts, Billy Thornton, Ben Weatherford and Larry Wilson.
Summer Leadership Institute, more than 300 high school band and orchestra students from around the Southeast engaged with the Panther Band leadership. Breakout sessions featured keynote Jeff Harper, David Roth, Jennifer Sengin, Jerell Horton, Joel Denton, Matt McCord and Bridget Wildes.
