Xinran Hu
Associate Professor Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design- Biography
Xinran Hu (designer, educator, researcher) is a tenured Associate Professor of Graphic Design. She joins GSU in August 2021 and serves as Graphic Design area coordinator.
Xinran has taught design courses for 18 years at the University of Southern Indiana and Minnesota State University, including Introduction to Graphic Design, Graphic Design II, Graphic Design III, Graphic Design IV, Typography, Advanced Typography, Publication Design, Web Design, Motion Graphics Design, BFA Seminar, and Senior Design Seminar. She received her MFA in Graphic Design from Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Her design work has won awards from AIGA, PRINT magazine, and AGDA and has been published internationally.
Her bilingual (English and Chinese) book Gestalt Theory in the Art of Chinese Cut-Paper was published by the Hebei Fine Art Press in 2008 and won PRINT's 2009 Design Annual Award. Her recent research paper, "Exploratory Discoveries from Eye-Tracking Tests of Wertheimer's Gestalt Patterns," was published in November 2020 by Leonardo, a leading journal on using contemporary science and technology in the arts and music from MIT Pre
