Bands Administrative Coordinator School of Music- Biography
Atlanta-based musician Jonathan P. Kochik serves as the Administrative Coordinator for the Georgia State University Band program, and the Creative Director and Owner of Jonathan Kochik Music, LLC. Prior to his appointment to GSU, Mr. Kochik was the Director of Bands for Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, Georgia overseeing every aspect of the band program including its 3 concert ensembles, marching band, jazz band, 2 winterguard teams, and percussion ensemble. Mr. Kochik received a Bachelor of Music degree in performance (Horn) and a Master of Music degree in Wind Band Conducting from Georgia State University in 2016 and 2019, respectively.
Mr. Kochik is an avid teacher. From 2012 to 2019, he was on staff with the Milton High School Marching Band (Milton, Georgia) where he taught and led conducting clinics annually and worked with the student drum majors each season. He has also led conducting and leadership clinics at Mill Creek High School (2017-2020) and continues to lead conducting clinics at Buford High School every year since 2021. Additionally, Jonathan leads horn sectionals and master classes at various metro Atlanta middle and high schools.
Along with teaching, Mr. Kochik is an active composer and arranger with a wide array of writing and design experience on both the high school and collegiate levels. Over the years, he has enjoyed numerous commissions for original works for wind bands, chamber works, soundtrack designs for competitive winter guard shows, and show arrangements for competitive marching bands. During his time at Georgia State, he served as the in-house arranger for the Commencement Committee from 2017 to 2019. And from 2014 to 2018, in collaboration with Dr. Robert J. Ambrose, Mr. Kochik created the first critical edition of the landmark wind band work “Arctic Dreams” by the late Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Michael Colgrass which was published by Carl Fischer Music in 2019.
Enjoying the many facets of the arts, Jonathan continues to teach, compose, and perform throughout the metro Atlanta area.
