First Prizewinner at the Montreal- Quebec XIII CONCOURS D’INTERPRÉTATION DE MUSIQUE TCHÈQUE ET SLOVAQUE 2015, soprano Alejandra Sandoval is also the winner of the XXIV. National Opera Competition “Carlo Morelli” 2006, held in Mexico City at the Palace of Fine Arts, Mexico’s most important competition. She won the third prize at the International Opera Competition “Opera of San Miguel” in June 2009.
In 2016 Alejandra made her debut at the Opera de Bellas Artes in Mexico City as Madama Cortese in Giacchino Rossini’s “Il Viaggio a Reims.” In 2018 she sang Elvira in W.A. Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” with the same company in Merida, Yucatan.
Recent opera engagements include: Norina in “Don Pasquale” (Camerata de Coahuila and Orquesta Sinfónica Mexiquense, Toluca), Violetta and Flora in “La Traviata” (Orquesta Sinaloa de las Artes, Rogelio Riojas-Nolasco Conductor, Vienna Opera Academy Orchestra, Toby Purser Conductor, Teatro del Bicentenario in Leon, Arthur Fagen Conductor), Mimi in “La Boheme” (State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra), Donna Anna in “Don Giovanni” (Symphony Orchestra Ciudad Juarez), Freia in “Das Rheingold” and her recent debut this year in Atlanta Ópera, in “The big tent series” in “The Three Penny Carmen” by Bizet.
Recent symphonic performances include: Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle (New YorkCity), Mahler’s Fourth Symphony (Xalapa Symphony Orchestra), Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony (State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra), Verdi’s Requiem (Nezahualcoyotl Concert Hall, Mexico City), and a series of performances of Carmina Burana at the International Festival Cervantino in Guanajuato, Mexico.
She has performed with the Teatro Bicentenario Leon, the Orchestra of the Teatro de Bellas Artes, the State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Mexico City, the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra, Guanajuato Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the UNAM, the Querétaro Philharmonic Orchestra, the Michoacán Symphony, Camerata of Coahuila, Juárez City Symphony, and others.Alejandra has appeared in various international festivals like the “International Festival. Cervantino” in Guanajuato, the Festival St.Eustache in Quebec, and the “Festival del Centro Historico” in Mexico City.
In 2012 Alejandra toured Belorussia’s significant cities on a recital series with the Russian-born pianist Alexandr Pashkov. December 2012 through January 2013, she toured Beijing, Guangzhou, and Macao with the Symphony Orchestra of Mexico under conductor Enrique Batiz. Alejandra sang Villa-Lobos’s Bachianas Brasileiras N°5 in Beijing’s National Performing Arts Centre and Guangzhou Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall.
Alejandra worked with renowned conductors, such as Arthur Fagen, Enrique Batiz, Jorge Parodi, Silvain Gasaçon, Srba Dinič, Scott Yoo, Rogelio Riojas, Ivan Lopez, Lanfranco Maceletti, Yoav Talmi, Enrique Patrón de Rueda, John Goldwin, Ramón Shade, among others.
Alejandra was a semifinalist in several international competitions: “Hans Gabor Belvedere” Vienna (Austria 2007), Concurso de Canto “Francisco Viñas” Barcelona (España 2007), “Iris Adam Corradetti” de Padova (Italia 2004), Concorso Internazionale “Toti dal Monte” en Treviso (Italia 2005), “Ciudad de Trujillo” en Peru (2001).
Born in the city of Irapuato in Guanajuato, Alejandra Sandoval completed her Licenciatura of Music at the School of Music of the University of Guanajuato in 2005. She has studied and attended master classes with renowned singers and international opera coaches, such as Kathryn Hartgrove, Dunja Vejzovic, Victoria Loukianetz, Vladimir Chernov, Toby Purser, Noé Colín, Francisco Araiza, Vito Cristofaro, Jesus Leòn, Graciela Araya, Abbie Furmansky, Rogelio Riojas, Carlos Aransay, Carlos Conde, Emilio Pons, Kamal Khan, Andres Sarre, Stefano Lovato, Silvano Zabeo, Bárbara Lorey, Enrique Patrón de Rueda, Laurel Miller, Isir Almaguer and recently she is studying with renowned singer Peter Mark.
