INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Georgia State will review international applicants for admission, regardless of country of citizenship or nationality. Students from the seven countries mentioned in the January 27, 2017, Executive Order may have difficulties obtaining a visa and entering the U.S. in the near future.
Applicants who completed all or part of their education abroad are subject to additional application requirements.
Academic Credentials/Transcripts:
Submit proof of a degree that is equivalent to the U.S. four-year bachelor's degree. Academic credentials (or transcripts) should include a yearly listing of courses with grades/marks earned, as well as the degree earned. If available, the grading scale and student’s rank should be noted on the official credentials.
Notarized copies are acceptable, or the original document(s) may be brought to Graduate Admissions for review and copying. Documents must be in English or submitted with official translations either from the institution or a professional service.
Academic Evaluations:
Graduate Admissions will make every attempt to evaluate your credentials for U.S. equivalency. If we cannot clearly determine equivalency, a professional evaluation will be requested. Submit your documents well in advance of the deadline to allow time for evaluation. If the degree is not found to be equivalent you will not be able to continue the application process. If you have a course-by-course evaluation, you may submit this instead of your academic credentials. Evaluations may be obtained from any NACES-accredited agency, such as World Education Services, Inc.
English Proficiency:
In addition to meeting all other applicable requirements for admission, non-native speakers of English must demonstrate sufficient English-language proficiency. Proof of English proficiency can be demonstrated through one of the following:
- Proof of baccalaureate or graduate degree completion inside (from an accredited institution) or outside the U.S., where English is the official language of academic instruction
- TOEFL scores (paper or Internet-based)
- IELTS scores
- Completion of a University System of Georgia approved ESL program
