In this edition of Artistic Voices, we feature 20-year-old mezzo-soprano, Madison Chambers from the School of Music, who is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in voice performance. She is one of the three Tennessee district winners in the prestigious Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition and moves on to the regional phase of the competition. Madison has also won several awards including the Tommy Trotter Scholarship competition, the Opera Guild for Atlanta's scholarship competition, and numerous awards from the Atlanta Music Club. Hear from Madison about her introduction to opera, thoughts about competing, her favorite GSU role to date, and an exciting music opportunity this summer.
A student of Professor Kathryn Hartgrove, Madison frequently performs in the Atlanta Opera chorus. Her recent performance highlights include Julia Child in Hoiby's Bon Appetit (image below), Tolomeo in Handel's Giulio Cesare and Zita in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi. This spring, Madison will perform in Strauss' Die Fledermaus in the role of Prince Orlovsky, followed by spending the summer in Santa Barbara, CA at the prestigious Music Academy of the West.
