The Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design Gallery presents "Ten Years Out Of Hand Exhibition," which opened on January 11 with a closing reception on February 9 (4:00-8:00 pm). The invitational exhibition features work from ten prominent artists—five printmakers and five photographers—representing ten years of The Hand Magazine.
The quarterly, independent publication, founded in Prairie Village, Kansas in 2013, is "a premier forum for “alternative” photographic and printmaking processes" that "strives to encourage inspiration, education, and community for artists using unique, mixed media, experimental, and idiosyncratic reproduction-based techniques." Creators of The Hand Magazine, Adam Finkelston and James Meara, will announce a publication award for a participating artist at the closing event on February 9th.
Invited artists include Printmakers: LaToya Hobbs (visiting campus), Delita Martin, Koichi Yamamoto, Evan Summer and Aaron Coleman, Photographers: Kahn and Selesnick (visiting campus), Robert Calafiore, Gayle Stevens, Joseph Sacabo, and Louviere + Vanessa.
The curatorial team includes Publishers/Editors of The Hand Magazine: Adam Finkelston and James Meara (visiting campus); Senior Lecturer in Printmaking, Stephanie Kolpy; Senior Lecturer in Photography, Kate Cunningham; and Welch Gallery Director, Cynthia Farnell.
All exhibition programming is supported by a grant from Arts & Entertainment Atlanta, the Welch School of Art & Design Galleries, The College of the Arts, and Georgia State University Student Activity Fees.
