Last May, jazz pianist Louis Heriveaux added a master’s degree to his bachelor’s degree from GSU's School of Music. Highly accomplished, Heriveaux has over 25 years of professional experience as a performer and teacher. We connect with the seasoned artist about the early years of studying classical piano, the spark that ignited his passion for jazz, the support from Professor Gordon Vernick (Director of Jazz Studies), a Johnny Mercer Foundation collaboration, and more.
“I used to hear music, on television shows such as Charlie Brown and Mr. Rogers, and tell my parents I want to play music that sounds like that kind of stuff."
