Photography M.F.A. candidate Mattie Pieschel is currently preparing for her upcoming M.F.A. thesis exhibition “Between What Exists” at the Welch Galleries at the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design. Mattie connects with Artistic Voices for an intimate talk about her journey and exploration of the medium, as well as processes and techniques acquired throughout the program, now present in the exhibition.

Mattie was born and raised in Springfield, MN. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Marquette University and is currently an M.F.A. candidate in Photography at Georgia State University. Recent exhibitions include group shows “Parallel” at Whitespace Gallery and “More Upstairs” at the Temporary Art Center in Atlanta, GA. Much of her work involves investigating the potentiality of disregarded, mundane, and ubiquitous spaces and experiences. A desire to give value to that which has a negative value flows throughout her work.
